Annette Torres Elias is a Reading Recovery Descubriendo la Lectura Trainer and Associate Professor at Texas Woman’s University.

“My passion is to support teachers and students in bilingual/dual language/ESL education and early literacy/biliteracy.

My main goal as an instructor is to support my students in becoming critical thinkers and life-long learners who are able to deliver effective and principled instruction in their classrooms. I believe that students have the right to the best education possible, and that it is the educator’s responsibility to provide a welcoming and interactive environment that will facilitate learning. I see my role as that of a facilitator and understand that learning is a process and not an outcome.

I recognize the importance of forging mentoring relationships with students. I invite my students to participate in professional and community service activities that motivate them and extend their professional growth. It is through these experiences that students become reflective and insightful practitioners.

My commitment to excellence in education extends my scholarship activity beyond the classroom. I link my practice to the classroom through research. I broaden and refine my own learning by participating in conferences, workshops, and collegial discussions. In addition, I contribute to my field by participating in community, state, and national efforts related to my discipline.

I love to collaborate with schools and support in-service teachers through continuing development and to connect research to practice. Let’s talk! Let’s make great things happen!

Specialties: I take great joy in supporting teachers and administrators with program and professional development in the areas of language acquisition, dual language education, Bilingual/ESL education, linguistic and cultural diversity, multicultural education, early literacy, early literacy intervention, literacy, writing, teacher preparation, program design & implementation, and advocacy.”
